Awami Action Committee (AAC) Gilgit-Baltistan has announced a historic long march from Gilgit to Chilas on February 27 in solidarity with the affectees of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam. The decision was made during an important meeting of the central cabinet of AAC, chaired by the central chairman, Advocate Ehsan Ali. The meeting involved a detailed discussion on the next phase of the ongoing protest movement in Diamer.
It was unanimously decided that since the people of Diamer have called for support, the Awami Action Committee will mobilize the entire region and march towards Diamer. On February 27, the people of Gilgit-Baltistan will take part in this historic long march from Gilgit to Diamer.
Chairman Advocate Ehsan Ali has appealed to the youth, elders, and students of Gilgit-Baltistan to participate in the march. He stated that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan must unite as one nation on February 27, demonstrating their collective strength to secure their rights.
Instructions have been issued to leaders in all districts to gather in the form of caravans at Ghari Bagh, Gilgit, on the morning of February 27, from where the long march will commence.
The first stop of the march will be at Naad Ali Chowk in Sekoar, where caravans from Danyor and nearby towns will join before proceeding further.
The meeting was attended by Vice Chairman Mehboob Wali, Organizer Comrade Baba Jan, Lawyers' Wing President Nafees Advocate, Finance Secretary Ghulam Abbas, founding leader Haji Naib Khan, Additional Secretary General Taaruf Abbas Advocate, senior leader Jehanzaib Inqilabi, Vice Chairman Fida Isaar, Information Secretary Zaheer Qasmi, Coordination Secretary Nusrat Hussain, and youth leader Shakir Hussain, among others.
The decision for the long march was made after the second round of negotiations between government representatives and protest leaders failed on Sunday.
The General Secretary of the Awami Workers Party Gilgit-Baltistan and Deputy Secretary of the Awami Action Committee, Sher Nadir Shahi, stated that his party would play a leading role in the long march to Diamer on February 27.
He urged his party members, supporters, and the public to begin preparations and become part of this historic struggle.
The affectees of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam have been holding a protest sit-in at Chilas for the past ten days, demanding compensation for their lands, the construction of a model town, 80% of royalties from the dam for Gilgit-Baltistan, 40% royalties from the Dasu Dam, and priority employment for local youth.
